Tabernacle Church — Mixed-Use Community Masterplan
COGIC | 22+ Acres | 167 Residential Units | $84MM+ Investment
An $84 million, 22-acre mixed-use masterplan is positioning a COGIC congregation's campus as a full-service community corridor — anchored by affordable housing, retail, health infrastructure, and a walkable "Main Street" designed to serve residents who have lacked access to both.
Led by Bishop Vincent Mathews and developed in partnership with J29:7 Planning + Development Corp, the Tabernacle Church Masterplan delivers 167 mixed-income residential units across multi-family apartments, ground-floor retail, and senior living townhomes — alongside 18,000 sq. ft. of retail, a 5,000 sq. ft. Health Clinic, a restaurant, and a healthy grocery store. Tabernacle Boulevard anchors the development as a walkable "Main Street," flanked by pocket parks, a community park, community gardens, and a farmer's market promoting a farm-to-table ecosystem.
This project serves as a replicable model for how faith-owned land can be developed into a self-sustaining, community-centered ecosystem — addressing housing, health, economic access, and quality of life simultaneously.
A congregation becoming a community.
